Organizing Cabinets

I used to hate the corner cabinet. It seemed like such a waste of space. I often times would be hit with falling objects as I tried to locate something that would inevitable be in the far back corners.
When organizing spaces in your home it is important to break down the project into bite size pieces. Don't try to do the entire kitchen. Start with just one cabinet or one drawer at a time.

I bought one of these grabber thingies years ago to help reach items up high. It's not very helpful for larger/wider items.
A friend of mine that I met on a local moms site introduced me to these plastic  handled baskets. They are only sold at Walmart. You can find similar baskets at the Dollar Tree from time to time in primary colors. I've also seen them in a transparent color at Big Lots, although theirs were flimsy.
To start your project you will want to lay out everything that was inside the cabinet and groups like items and parts that belong together.
Fill your plastic baskets with all of the items that you want to live in the cabinet you are working on. I labeled mine so that the kids can maybe someday identify what belongs where. Maybe.
I placed the least used items in first to the back of the corner cabinet because you have to slide out one basket to get to the one in back.
Now you can easily grab the handle, pull out your hand mixer and all of the attachments in one quick grab. I love it! You can find what You need and nobody gets hurt.

These baskets are useful in lots of storage spaces in the home. I have them in my pantry to store food items, in the fridge to organize condiments, and they are great for linen closets and even under the sink vanity to keep products tidy.

Last weeks project was organizing my food storage containers. You can find out more about that project here:

My clients are often amazed at how much more they can store in their home when they have the right tools to store things in the best way possible.

Nothing helps sell a home quite like showcasing the efficient storage space your home has to offer!

And of course if you or someone you know is thinking about buying, or selling a property in the Metro Indy area I would love to talk with you about your real estate journey!

Decluttering Food Storage

I am a recovering Tupperware addict! I love the stuff. The way the lids stayed on, the fun colors, and ever changing styles!

A few years ago we bought our new home and I decided to purge the cabinets and pantry as I packed for the move. I didn't want to move anything that we didn't love/use/need.

I pulled my collection of Tupperware out of the cabinets and pantry and laid it out onto the table and I was really dumbfounded. First of all half of it was never used. Several pieces were missing lids, and none of them really stacked or fit together. They took up so much space.

A friend from my local moms group suggested selling it all and buying the Rubbermaid Easy Find Lid food storage system.

This is all of the containers that fit on one shelf in my kitchen cabinet.
I love how they stack so well, saving space in the fridge too!
They stack on top of their lids and nest inside one another, fitting several containers in one stack!
I have 3 different versions. The original red easy find lids, which as you can see have staining from years of use.
The green produce saver has inserts to allow your produce to rest above the condensation in the containers, making it fresher for longer.
The gray premier food storage are made from a hard plastic that is stain resistant. It's great for red sauces!
I place the largest containers in the back of the cabinet shelf as they are used less frequently.
I stack the smaller, more frequently used containers, in front for easy access.

If you are short on storage space in your kitchen, are downsizing, or getting ready to put your home up for sale and want your kitchen space to show at its decluttering best, I highly recommend you donate your hodge podge of food storage containers and buy something that takes up less space!

And if you are in the market to buy or sell I would love the opportunity to work with you! You can message me at L.Latinovich@gmail.com
